Following on from the September the 11^th terror attacks, Sikhs across the world have increasingly faced the negative rebound of Islamism. The Sikh turban and beard often being mistaken with images broadcast of known Islamist terrorists. The backlash has included verbal threats, physical attacks and in the U.S culminating with the murder of Balbir Singh Sodhi, a Mesa Gas station owner from Arizona. Sikhs in Britain have also been physically assaulted in a number of cases of ‘mistaken identity.’

The documentary traces the history of the turban in the Sikh tradition, from its roots in Moghul India, through to the battlefields of Europe and the fight for British Sikhs to wear outward symbols of their faith. The documentary reveals the turban as a crucial symbol of Sikhism and delves into the many sacrifices given to preserve Sikh identity.
