Over the last few months, the Sikh community has been saddened by the suicide of three young women, due to family pressures. To help avoid such tragic happenings the Network of Sikh Organisations (NSO) has decided to establish a Sikh Women’s Support Group, to ensure such tragedies are avoided in future and to support those in difficulties.
Women experiencing major difficulties within the family or in marital relationships can phone to talk, discuss and seek advice on issues that are seriously concerning them.
Advice will be totally confidential and independent. No names will be identified. As disagreements are mainly between husband and wife, men can also initiate the discussion.
Contact us about your difficulties. A problem shared is a problem halved. Talking to independent people in complete confidence can reduce anxiety and can help find appropriate assistance and advice. The line will operate from
1 December 2005.
NSO is negotiating to get a free help line number. In the meantime please dial020 8540 4148 and ask for Dr Kanwaljit Kaur.
Independent experienced counsellors are being recruited to assist in this work. If anyone is interested in giving their time in assisting in this important project, please phone the above number to register your name. Training will be provided.
